Recycling Guide - Coffee Capsules

All components of the aluminum coffee capsules are reusable: aluminum is a sought-after good for remelting, the coffee grounds refine the compost or are used to produce biogas.

Plastic capsules are more sophisticated and usually consist of several composite materials. If sensible material recycling is not possible, the mixed plastics are thermally recycled. Even these unsuitable residual materials can replace fossil fuels through maximum utilization of thermal energy in the cement industry and thus help save CO2.

When recycling aluminum, nine kilograms of CO2 and up to 95% of the energy originally used are saved per kilogram of aluminum compared to initial production.
