{"id":3233,"date":"2021-11-10T10:32:05","date_gmt":"2021-11-10T08:32:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.werecycle.ch\/?p=3233"},"modified":"2022-10-27T10:36:15","modified_gmt":"2022-10-27T08:36:15","slug":"bioplastik-als-alternative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.werecycle.ch\/en\/bioplastik-als-alternative\/","title":{"rendered":"Bio Plastik als Alternative?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Grunds\u00e4tzlich muss zwischen &#8222;Plastik aus Bio&#8220; und &#8222;biologisch abbaubarem Plastik&#8220; unterschieden werden. Oft, aber l\u00e4ngst nicht immer, ist mit Bio Plastik beides gemeint. Biobasierter Kunststoff ist nicht automatisch biologisch abbaubar &#8211; w\u00e4hrend erd\u00f6lbasierter Kunststoff abbaubar sein kann. Der Marktanteil von Bio Kunststoffen liegt in Europa aktuell erst bei rund 1%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aus \u00f6kologischer Sicht hat Bioplastik aus Pflanzenmaterial gegen\u00fcber herk\u00f6mmlichen Kunststoffen zumindest scheinbar wichtige Vorteile. Biobasierte Kunststoffe brauchen zur Herstellung keine fossilen Rohstoffe, sondern nutzen nachwachsende Ressourcen. Mittels verschiedener Verfahren k\u00f6nnen aus Rohmaterialien wie&nbsp;Mais,&nbsp;Weizen,&nbsp;Kartoffeln,&nbsp;Zuckerrohr,&nbsp;Zuckerr\u00fcben,&nbsp;Bambus&nbsp;oder&nbsp;Holz&nbsp;unterschiedliche Kunststoffarten produziert werden (St\u00e4rke-, PLA- oder zellulosebasierte Biokunststoffe). In einem&nbsp;Papier&nbsp;der Assoziation \u00f6kologischer Lebensmittelhersteller (A\u00f6L) ist dabei von Emissionseinsparungen von 20 bis 80 Prozent die Rede.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die Verwendung von Nahrungsmitteln als Rohmaterial f\u00fcr Plastik steht in direkter Konkurrenz zur Nahrungsmittelproduktion. Und auch f\u00fcr nicht-essbares Pflanzenmaterial gehen wertvolle Fl\u00e4chen f\u00fcr den Anbau von Lebensmitteln verloren. W\u00e4hrend in vielen Teilen der Welt Menschen hungern, werden Nahrungsmittel und Anbaufl\u00e4chen f\u00fcr Verpackungsmaterial genutzt. F\u00fcr den Anbau dieser Pflanzen kommen zudem oft grosse Mengen an D\u00fcngemitteln und Pestiziden zum Einsatz, die B\u00f6den und Gew\u00e4sser belasten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Der Mythos der Kompostierung<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biologisch abbaubarer Kunststoff darf sich \u201ekompostierbar\u201c nennen und beispielsweise das \u201eKeimling\u201c-Logo tragen, wenn er unter industriellen Bedingungen innerhalb von h\u00f6chstens 90 Tagen zu 90 Prozent in kleinste Teilchen Theoretisch d\u00fcrfen beim Abbau nur CO2 und Wasser \u00fcbrig bleiben. Nach dieser Zeit in einer industriellen Kompostierung d\u00fcrfen h\u00f6chstens 10% der Reste noch gr\u00f6sser als 2 Millimeter sein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leider ist diese Norm veraltet, denn moderne Anlagen brauchen nur noch drei bis vier Wochen, um aus Bioabf\u00e4llen Humus zu machen. Da kann das Bioplastik nicht mithalten und es bleiben Plastikfetzen \u00fcbrig, was den Humus weitestgehend unbrauchbar macht. Bio Plastiks\u00e4cke werden daher vor der Kompostierung wieder aussortiert. Zwar gibt es auch Zertifizierungen f\u00fcr heim-kompostierbare Plastikprodukte, diese sind jedoch selten, und auch der Branchenverband European Bioplastics scheint solchen Produkten gegen\u00fcber eher skeptisch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Im Prinzip haben vollst\u00e4ndig kompostierbare Plastikprodukte \u2013 zum Beispiel Einweggeschirr oder M\u00fcllbeutel aus Maisst\u00e4rke \u2013 das Potenzial, Abfall zu vermeiden und so die Umwelt zu schonen. Selbst wenn sie in die Natur gelangen, k\u00f6nnen sie sich zumindest schneller und vollst\u00e4ndiger zersetzen als herk\u00f6mmliches Plastik. In Landwirtschaft und Gartenbau k\u00f6nnen nat\u00fcrlich verrottende Folien aus Bioplastik die Arbeit erleichtern, da sie nicht aufgesammelt und aufwendig entsorgt werden m\u00fcssen. In der Praxis jedoch sollten auch biologisch abbaubare oder kompostierbare Plastikprodukte auf keinen Fall einfach in der Umwelt (oder auf dem Kompost) landen \u2013 unter den schwer kontrollierbaren Bedingungen dort kann der Abbau immer noch sehr, sehr lange dauern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ein Lichtblick:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Es existieren verschiedene Forschungsans\u00e4tze, um Biokunststoffe aus kaum anderweitig verwendbaren organischen Rohstoffen herzustellen, beispielsweise aus Holzabf\u00e4llen oder Lebensmittelabf\u00e4llen. Die Idee ist viel versprechend, noch befinden sich diese Materialien aber in der Entwicklung. Immerhin: Bei der \u201eenergetischen Verwertung\u201c, also der Verbrennung, ist biobasierter Biokunststoff etwas klimafreundlicher als herk\u00f6mmliches Plastik.
